The European Commission (EC) has
approved the use of 3G and 4G
networks on flights in European
airspace, allowing airlines to
decide whether they want to
use these networks to boost
internet access for passengers.
The Commission had previously
allowed airlines to offer 2G
services during flights, but data
services were unsurprisingly
very slow. Although these
changes could give you more
freedom with your devices on
European flights, bear in mind
that the decision to let you
connect your smartphone will
depend solely on the
friendliness of your airline.
